Cuban teenager Dayana Riverón wowed audiences this Saturday with her stellar performance in the battles of La Voz Kids Spain, securing her spot in the next phase of the 2024 singing competition.
The selection of the song "Mía," a classic by Mexican composer Armando Manzanero, was made by singer David Bisbal along with musician Álvaro Soler, according to the Antena 3 website. Riverón, 14, felt at home with this flamenco-style bolero, sharing the stage with fellow contestants and team members Esther, Iván, and Juan.
Bisbal commented that they performed even better during rehearsals. However, together with his advisor Soler, he decided to advance Dayana and Esther to the next round. Despite her lack of experience in the flamenco genre, they chose Dayana for the battle not only because of her outstanding voice but also due to her "precision."
The young Cuban, who exhibits a mature and experienced vocal style, managed to convey deep emotions through the bolero, earning praise from several of the coaches. One of the most delighted by this song choice was Rosario Flores, who thanked Bisbal for picking a song that is popular in her sister Lolita's repertoire.
Riverón expressed heartfelt words to her team members in an Instagram story: “To my kids, I will never have enough words to thank you for the affection and connection we built in such a short time. You have become a memory I will always carry with me. I love you.”
During the blind auditions, Riverón’s immense talent sparked a competition between Bisbal and Melendi, both striving to have her on their respective teams. Ultimately, Riverón chose Bisbal’s team but revealed that although she is of Cuban origin, she currently resides in Gran Canaria.
Recently, the teenager admitted her admiration for the mariachi genre: “Today I dared to return once again to the mariachi genre that I love so much,” she wrote on Instagram, where she shared a video of herself performing “Si nos dejan” by composer José Alfredo Jiménez.
