Social media users are expressing outrage over the neglect prevailing at the Hospital Infantil Sur in Santiago de Cuba, commonly known as La Colonia, where stray dogs and cats are freely wandering through the hospital wards.

Social communicator Yosmany Mayeta took to Facebook to share complaints from various individuals who sent in images showing dogs and cats roaming unrestricted through the hospital's corridors.

The independent journalist questioned, "Children's hospital or veterinary clinic?" while sharing images depicting a dog and a cat in the hospital wards alongside patients and their families.

Yosmany Mayeta reminded the public that this hospital recently faced criticism due to power outages, unsanitary bathroom conditions, poor service, and subpar food quality.

"And now dogs and cats within the hospital wards," he pointed out. "This leaves much to be desired when it comes to hygienic and sanitary conditions."

Recently, top officials from Santiago de Cuba visited this medical facility to oversee "hygiene and sanitation campaigns" being conducted at La Colonia.

The governor of the province, Manuel Falcón, boasted in a publication that these measures aim to "ensure a healthy environment" in the very same hospital where dogs and cats roam freely and unchallenged.

Concerns About Hospital Hygiene and Safety

Given the recent reports and images, the community has raised several important questions about the hygiene and safety conditions at Hospital Infantil Sur. Here are some key questions and answers that address these concerns:

Why are stray animals allowed in the hospital?

The presence of stray animals in the hospital is a result of neglect and lack of proper sanitary measures. This has led to public outrage and demands for immediate action to improve the conditions.

What actions are being taken to address this issue?

Local authorities, including the governor of Santiago de Cuba, have claimed to be implementing hygiene and sanitation campaigns. However, the effectiveness of these measures remains in question as stray animals continue to roam freely.

How does this situation affect patients and their families?

The presence of stray animals poses significant health risks and creates an unsanitary environment, further compromising the already poor conditions of the hospital. This can be particularly harmful to young patients and their families.

What can the public do to help improve the situation?

Raising awareness through social media and contacting local health authorities to demand immediate action are ways the public can help address the issue. Public pressure can often lead to quicker and more effective responses from officials.
