The Center for Forecasting at the Institute of Meteorology (INSMET) in Cuba issued a warning this Wednesday regarding ongoing rain and thunderstorms in the western part of the country, which are expected to persist into the night.
The daily report from this government entity states that “cloudiness will predominate in the western region, with some showers, rain, and thunderstorms, which will extend into the night.” The report further notes that “in the rest of the country, it will be partly cloudy and will become cloudy in the afternoon in interior areas with isolated showers.”
INSMET also mentioned that in the western region, maximum temperatures will range between 30 and 33 degrees Celsius. In the rest of the archipelago, temperatures will hover between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius. Nighttime temperatures are expected to drop to values between 24 and 27 degrees Celsius.
Additionally, the institute warned that there will be waves from Cabo Cruz to Punta de Maisí, as well as on the southern coast of Guanahacabibes and the Isle of Youth. The rest of the coastal areas will experience light waves, except for the north-central region, where the sea will remain calm.
Furthermore, the areas experiencing showers and thunderstorms might see an increase in wind strength and wave height.
Meteorologist Alis Varela de la Rosa reported on Cuban television this Wednesday that heavy rain was recorded on Tuesday in the western region, indicating that “favorable conditions for rain exist.” She noted that it has been raining in this part of Cuba since early morning and that rainfall will be more frequent in the provinces of Pinar del Río, Artemisa, and Havana.
Last Friday, INSMET issued an alert for intense rain and strong winds in the western and central parts of the country.
