A Cuban family is appealing for help to perform surgery on a five-month-old infant diagnosed with a brain tumor. The baby's aunt reached out to CiberCuba to publicize the case, as the child requires medical supplies that are reportedly unavailable in the country.

"My niece, who is just five months old, is hospitalized awaiting surgery. Unfortunately, one of the essential medical supplies she needs is a CSF shunt valve with a filter, which is not available," she stated.

The baby has been diagnosed with a brain tumor located between the fourth ventricle and the pineal region, which needs to be urgently removed to prevent it from affecting other areas crucial for her development.

Currently, she is admitted to the intermediate care unit of the Eliseo Noel Camaño Pediatric Hospital in Matanzas. "We are searching for a valve or catheter with a medium-pressure filter to divert fluid from the head to the abdomen, preventing tumor cells from spreading to the abdomen. The tumor is a germinoma and has grown significantly," the aunt explained.
