The Manufactured Gas Company has informed its customers about the introduction of a new odorant designed to help with the detection of gas leaks. Starting from June 19, this new product will be used in the Playa-Marianao network and will gradually be implemented across all of Havana.

The authorities assure that necessary monitoring and sampling will be conducted to ensure the control and safety of the system. The new odorant, characterized by an unusual smell similar to garlic, will allow for the rapid identification of potential leaks. This change comes due to the unavailability of the previously used product.

The gas odorant has undergone studies and analyses by specialists, who certify its quality and safety. It has been successfully used in Europe and China and poses no health risks. This new measure is an effective way to detect leaks early, helping to prevent potential accidents.

The announcement of the new product comes amidst growing concerns about gas supply in Cuba. Recently, in the Sancti Spíritus municipality, more than 10,000 households were without liquefied gas service for 18 days due to a fuel shortage. Gas sales resumed intermittently and with limitations this week, affecting thousands of customers still awaiting gas for cooking.

The Manufactured Gas Company urges the public to be vigilant for any unusual smells and to immediately report any suspected leaks to the appropriate authorities.
