Residents of the Altamira area in Santiago de Cuba are raising concerns about the filth surrounding a primary school and a daycare center, where garbage has been accumulating for days due to a lack of waste collection.
Parents of children attending Rubén Martínez Villena Primary School, commonly known as Don Bosco, and the daycare center Amiguitos del Mundo have voiced their complaints about the trash heaps bordering both institutions.
According to a Facebook post by communicator Yosmany Mayeta Labrada, the trash dump is located at the intersection of Gasómetro Street and 12th Street, and its stench reaches the nearest classrooms.
"They haven't collected the garbage for days; people throw dead dogs, food, and even animal intestines there," a frustrated mother reported. "No one does anything about it. The president of the Vista Hermosa Popular Council lives nearby, and he just roams the neighborhood pretending to work but solves nothing," she added.
Another dump, located near the daycare center and the supermarket on 7 de Mármol Street, has garbage mixed with stagnant dirty water.
"No one cares that there are small children around. They don't care if a child gets sick with dengue or Oropouche. They talk about the conditions in which other people around the world live, but they refuse to see how we live here in Cuba," the photographer told the reporter.
