Missing Cuban Mother from Hialeah: Family Seeks Public's Help

Saturday, June 15, 2024 by Richard Morales

Vilma Gil, a 51-year-old Cuban mother residing in Hialeah, has been missing for two weeks. The woman, who has a five-year-old daughter, was last seen on June 1st when she left her home at noon to go to a beauty salon. She had plans to get ready for her daughter's end-of-year party the following day.

Her trail went cold at a gas station on 157th Avenue and Kendall Drive. Investigations have revealed that Vilma never made it to the salon. The next day, police found her car abandoned at mile marker 32 on 8th Street in the Everglades, in a dark area near a lake. Her belongings were inside the vehicle, but her cell phone and a credit card were missing.

"I didn't notice anything unusual. She seemed in good spirits; I never imagined that would be the last time I spoke with her for a long time," her husband Alexei Licea told Univision. He mentioned that he tried to contact her several times without success and initially thought her phone had run out of battery. That same night, he reported her missing to the police.

"These have been very difficult days, dealing with this situation where you don't know what has happened," he concluded.

More desperate is Digna Gil, the missing Cuban's sister, who is pleading for help to find her sister. "Everywhere I go, I look to see if I can spot her, but nothing... Trusting in God, and in you, and all those working on the case," she told the media.

Digna Gil has called on the community to report any leads that might help locate her sister. Local authorities continue to investigate and urge anyone with relevant information to contact the Miami-Dade County Police Department. The family is also organizing community searches and is asking for the participation of anyone who can help.
