Saturday, June 15, 2024 by Henry Cruz

A young man, only 20 years old, identified as Fabián Whittaker, was fatally stabbed by a coworker while performing his duties at a Mipyme located in the Plaza Polifuncional Pedro A. Pérez of Guantánamo.

The victim, described by family and friends as a kind and hardworking individual, lost his life at his workplace, where he served as a security guard. The details of the crime were reported by a local internet user, Irma Broek.

Violence in the Workplace

A resident of Guantánamo mentioned that, according to circulating accounts, the young man was attacked by two individuals who caused a commotion at the site. As Whittaker was responsible for security, he tried to intervene and was subsequently killed.

"I still can't believe you're gone, how unjust life is, how unjust," expressed a visibly affected cousin of the victim. "Fabi, you were a good person. I can't bear the pain you've left in my soul, the void you've left in people's hearts because you were so beloved... They didn't even let you defend yourself," she highlighted in a Facebook post.

This tragic incident adds to a disturbing wave of violence that seems to be on the rise on the island. In recent months, several homicide cases have been reported.

On June 12, a jeweler was murdered in Havana, and two days later, on June 14, a security guard at a cooperative in Santiago de Cuba was killed under similar circumstances. Additionally, a young man was recently murdered during a party at a social club in Holguín.
