Cuban Journalist Javier Díaz Reunites with Family in Barcelona for Birthday Celebration

Sunday, June 16, 2024 by Isabella Rojas

Cuban journalist Javier Díaz, who currently resides in the United States, arrived in Barcelona this past weekend to celebrate his birthday with family. Javier turns 36 this Sunday and wanted to spend his special day in the most amazing way possible, surrounded by his loved ones in the Catalan capital.

"This year, my only wish was to spend my birthday with my family, and they made this trip possible," he shared on his Facebook wall, along with a video of the warm welcome he received. "The biggest surprise awaited me at the airport: everyone was there to greet me, and I had no idea! There's no better gift than being surrounded by the love and joy of family," he emphasized.

Numerous fans of the Univisión 23 reporter and broadcaster congratulated him and wished him blessings and success. Díaz, who has lived in the United States since January 2016, is known for being very family-oriented.

In January, he mourned the loss of one of his most beloved aunts in Cuba, unable to say goodbye. "One of my dearest aunts just passed away suddenly, and I couldn't even say farewell. The pain of family separation is truly sorrowful when such losses occur, and I can't imagine what closer family ties must feel," he reflected.

"Cubans who emigrate and those who stay behind always risk facing these kinds of losses. Today, I will be away from social media. I carry with me the memory of a wonderful aunt who made me laugh even though I was always very serious. Rest in peace, aunt! Today, I honor you from afar," he wrote.

In October, he reunited with his parents after more than seven months without seeing them in person. The journalist shared a photo on Facebook with his mom and dad on a beach. The three appeared very happy, although he did not specify their location.

"It had been over seven months since I last saw my parents. I know perfectly well how the separation affects thousands of Cubans. I hope that sooner rather than later, all Cuban families can also be together, even if only for brief moments," he stated.
