Animal advocates in the province of Sancti Spíritus issued a plea this Friday for assistance with a shelter run by two elderly individuals, which is facing a severe food shortage.
The ARCA Sancti Spíritus Foundation posted a message on Facebook revealing that Esperanza and Guillén, who manage the shelter, have not received their allocated food supply for 15 days, prompting their request for help. "They lack the resources to feed more than 20 dogs," the post emphasized, highlighting that while the current economic crisis—the worst in decades—affects people, it hits homeless pets especially hard.
Although the ARCA Sancti Spíritus Foundation did not provide further details about the food shortage at the shelter, they did specify that by last Friday, there was no food left for the dogs.
Efforts to Save Animals in Sancti Spíritus
Last May, activists from the Foundation rescued a dog that had been attacked with a machete by a man and left for dead. Recently, they joined other animal lovers on social media to celebrate the recovery of Yeiko, who is healing at home.
"Our prince is almost cured; soon, only small scars will remain, erased by love, and his heart will heal with his family, who adore him so much," the animal advocates shared on social media.
In a similar vein, another animal protector from the province of Villa Clara recently requested help on social media for a dog named Milagros, who suffered a spinal fracture. Demonstrating great affection for the injured dog, Daime Pérez Ramírez posted in the Facebook group "Sociedad protectora de animales en Cuba," asking for assistance with diapers, Desitin cream, wet wipes, and any contributions to aid in the dog's recovery.
