Cuban "Iron Man" Delivers Aid to Elderly Couple: "Family Abandoned Them to Move to the U.S."

Thursday, June 20, 2024 by Isabella Sanchez

Former boxer Lino Tomasen, known as "The Cuban Iron Man," has delivered humanitarian aid to an elderly couple in need in Havana.

In a video posted on his Instagram profile, Tomasen arrives at the grandparents' home with a foldable walker, donated by compassionate individuals in Miami, United States, for the elderly woman who cannot walk unaided. He also brings some food for the couple.

"This is for you. Come on, I want to see you walk with it," the young man tells the elderly woman, who begins to walk around the house with a smile on her face, supported by the walker, while Tomasen and a woman accompanying him cheer her on.

"Walk without fear, my heart," he encourages, revealing that the elderly woman has fallen several times before.

The "Cuban Iron Man" expressed his gratitude to all the "brothers" who made the donation possible, including activist Limay Blanco, who is well-known for helping the destitute. "Thank you for sending this. Here we are, helping this elderly couple who have been together for many years, but now have no one to care for them. A friend of mine is currently looking after them," Tomasen explained at the end of his video.

In the text of his post, Tomasen shared, "It broke my heart to see this elderly couple. According to my contacts, their family abandoned them in Cuba to move to the United States and never contacted them again."

"But as the Lord's word says: whoever gives to the poor and needy lends to God, and what you offer with kindness and love will multiply. If we offer a drop of kindness, we will receive an ocean of reward," he affirmed. "I know some of my followers will contact me and send something to continue helping them. Thank you."

Tomasen is one of the many Cuban activists engaging in altruistic efforts to support the needy and vulnerable amid Cuba's economic and social crisis.

These aid movements are mobilized through social media, where many people share their struggles, and activists collaborate with the support of donors from abroad and Cubans on the island.
