Three people were injured in a collapse that occurred on Thursday in Havana, where a balcony fell onto a café located in the central area of El Vedado. The unfortunate incident took place at El Tablazo café, situated on 1st Street, between C and D.
According to a report by Carlos Espinosa Betancourt in the Facebook group "Maravilloso Malecón," the three injured individuals are being treated at Calixto García Hospital. Images shared online show fire trucks at the scene, where rescuers were clearing debris.
It is unclear whether the injured were on the collapsed balcony or inside the café, although it appears they were in the establishment when the structure fell on them. Espinosa Betancourt noted that, at first glance, the balcony did not seem to be in poor condition, similar to the other balconies of the building.
Two users commented on the post about what might have caused the collapse. "It is now known that the owners had the balcony filled with sacks of debris, tiles, and blocks because they were undergoing repairs. This caused the balcony to collapse, which indicates negligence on the part of the owners," said Daniel Pérez Alonso.
Ilene Arias González agreed, adding that for the repair of the upstairs apartment, the floor was lifted, and the balconies were filled with construction materials.
