A young Cuban man, severely injured in a traffic accident in Camagüey, is facing a dire situation due to the lack of medications at the hospital, with doctors warning that he might lose his arm.

The young man was hospitalized following a collision between a motorcycle and a riquimbili on Friday in the town of Redención, Minas municipality, where a married couple perished.

A user shared recent details about the injured man on the Facebook profile Accidentes de Buses y Camiones, noting that he underwent surgery on part of his arm but still requires additional surgeries, which the hospital lacks the resources to perform.

"The young man from the riquimbili accident in Camagüey had only part of his arm operated on. He needs to be taken back to the operating room for the other part of his arm and his leg, which has a fractured femur, but there are no painkillers or necessary supplies for the surgery," said the witness.

He pointed out that the young man has been enduring unbearable pain, with no painkillers available at the health center. "His arm is broken in several places, and his fingers are fractured. The surgeon mentioned that the arm might turn black, and if so, he could lose it. Thanks to efforts on Facebook, some solutions have been found," he added.

Several individuals have shown solidarity with the injured man, and his family has managed to bring medications to the hospital.

"Many thanks to everyone for their supportive comments. On Monday, he will be taken back to the operating room, but he will need another surgery afterward. We have already obtained the painkillers, and he is now able to sleep," said user Victoria González.

The surgeon has warned that the arm could become necrotic, leading to its amputation. This case highlights the severe shortcomings of the healthcare system in Cuba, where the lack of basic medical supplies endangers the lives and physical well-being of patients.
