Cuban Hairstylist Claims Women in Cuba Have Better Hair Than Those in the U.S.: "Hair Is Damaged Here"

Monday, June 24, 2024 by Robert Castillo

A Cuban hairstylist has sparked a debate on TikTok after asserting that women living on the island have better hair than those residing in the United States. This claim has garnered agreement from hundreds of women in the comment section of the video posted by Maite (@salonmaite).

"I have hundreds of comments agreeing with me. In the United States, their hair is worse than when they lived in Cuba. They used to use any brand of shampoo there, and when they come here, they start using expensive brands, yet their hair looks terrible. In Cuba, they use one-dollar shampoo and have beautiful hair, and here, even with favorable climate conditions, their hair is damaged. I know the water plays a role, but I want you to tell me if you're experiencing the same thing," said this Cuban hairstylist in a viral TikTok video that has led to a flurry of comments from women experiencing the same issue.

"I completely agree with you, and I do think the water accounts for about 80% of the change in hair," "You're absolutely right," "I thought it was just me. I always used all the Garnier products in Cuba and always had long, beautiful hair. Here, I use the same products, and it’s nowhere near as good as it was before," "The same thing happens to me, and I know friends who experience it too," and "It happens to me too. You're absolutely right," are some of the hundreds of comments under Maite's video.

Why Do Cuban Women Have Better Hair Than Those in the U.S.?

Below are some common questions and answers regarding the hair quality differences between women in Cuba and the United States, as discussed in the viral TikTok video by Maite.

Why do Cuban women have better hair despite using cheaper shampoo?

Many believe that the difference in water quality and climate between Cuba and the United States plays a significant role in hair health. Cheaper shampoos in Cuba might also have fewer harmful chemicals.

How does water quality affect hair health?

Water quality can impact hair health due to mineral content. Hard water, which is common in many parts of the U.S., contains high levels of minerals like calcium and magnesium, which can lead to dry, brittle hair.

Can expensive shampoos damage hair?

Expensive shampoos are not necessarily better for your hair. Some contain harsh chemicals that can strip natural oils and damage the hair over time.
