Carlos Núñez-Sosa, the son of a Honduran mother and a Cuban father, has been accepted into 17 prestigious universities in the United States, including Harvard, Yale, the University of Pennsylvania, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Although the young man received affirmative responses from 17 of the 25 universities he applied to, he ultimately decided to enroll at MIT because, in his own words, he is drawn to its energetic, social, and collaborative community, as well as the opportunity to "study something very advanced."

In an interview with Univisión Contigo, which was shared by his mother on Facebook, Núñez-Sosa explained, “I worked really hard on my applications because I felt this was the moment to put everything I had into it, even though I knew it was going to be really tough.”

Regarding the reception of the acceptance letters, he said he couldn't believe what was happening at the time: “I opened some rejection letters first to prepare myself.”

His parents were a significant source of inspiration, the talented young man assured. “I grew up working with them, and the hard work motivated me to put in my part to get ahead.” Núñez-Sosa explained that he also owes his personality, behavior, and orientation towards the Catholic faith to his parents.

Gladis and Yuniel arrived in the United States two decades ago: “My dad came first, and then my mom, but they knew each other from before.”

The young man of Cuban origin, whose story of acceptance into elite U.S. universities has inspired many, sent a simple yet powerful message to high school students who now see him as a role model: “You have to try and give 100%.”

Recently, Layra de la Caridad Valdés Ramírez, a young Cuban born in Havana, graduated from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine (HSDM)

In the opinion of the recent graduate, her parents, who sacrificed greatly for her to succeed in the United States, have been her main supporters. “My mother went from being a laboratory director in a hospital to cleaning bathrooms as a housekeeper. My father, who has a Master's degree in Chemistry, works in a warehouse. It was difficult for them to learn a new language, and they still struggle every day to communicate,” Layra expressed.

Also recently, a young Cuban woman in the United States graduated from her institute in Florida, proudly wearing a sash with the Cuban flag, thus honoring her roots.

This moment, which quickly went viral on TikTok, was shared by its protagonist @imkarlarei1, who has garnered approval from the Cuban community on the platform, moving many people from the island with her gesture.
