The Ministry of Transportation of Cuba launched a new certification process on Monday for vehicles assembled from parts and pieces (VAP). The organization issued the "Procedure for Certification of Motor Vehicles, Trailers, and Semi-Trailers Assembled from Parts and Pieces," detailed in Resolution 95 of 2024, published in the Official Gazette, ordinary edition number 55.
Until August 22, individuals who have not yet certified their vehicles can register through the platform www.vap.transnet.cu. After this date, the platform will only be available for users to consult their records.
Mario Pérez, head of the certification project, explained to Granma that the law also constitutes a new - exceptional - opening for this process at the offices of the National Department of Vehicle Registration and Driver’s License of the Ministry of the Interior.
A new feature in this process is that owners who are abroad or have any impediment preventing their physical presence can appoint a legal representative to act on their behalf. Additionally, the registration process now allows for the inclusion of a motor vehicle along with its trailer or semi-trailer.
In this call, vehicles previously declared unfit due to fixable technical issues and those not accepted in the initial certification process, provided they have resolved the identified technical issues, can be presented.
"The important thing is that we are making progress in legalizing vehicles that will contribute to the transportation of people at a time when it is greatly needed," noted Minister Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila on Facebook.
