The young Cuban mother Gretell Montalván Ramos is pleading for assistance to repatriate the remains of her husband, Yordani Viamontes Tamayo, who tragically died in a car accident on June 18 in the United States.

On social media platform Facebook, the Camagüey native explained the dire situation she faces following the death of her partner, being left alone with a one-year-old child, and now needing resources to get by and send the deceased's body back to Cuba, where his family awaits.

Seeking Community Support

"I am trying to set up a GoFundMe, but it has not been reviewed yet (...) I ask all my friends and family who can contribute in any way, and I am infinitely grateful in advance," expressed the Houston, Texas resident.

"The funds will be used to send my husband's body and to cover my and my child's household expenses during this very difficult time, as everyone knows it is very hard when it's just one person," added the young woman, who takes care of children at her home.

She also mentioned, "My one-year-old child and I are grateful to everyone who has supported us in one way or another during this very challenging moment."

Meanwhile, user Nelly D' Cuba also shared the story and revealed that Viamontes was found dead beneath his truck. She urged others to support Gretell, stating, "If God puts it in your heart to help her, even with just 5 dollars, together we can help her achieve this."

A week ago, the murder of Cuban Eric Marcos Reyes Pupo in Mexico shocked his family and friends, who sought help to repatriate his body to his hometown of Puerto Padre, in Las Tunas. The young man, only 26 years old, had emigrated to Mexico with the hope of starting a new life in the United States, reuniting with his mother.

Similarly, Cubans in the U.S. raised funds to repatriate the body of Yasmani, a compatriot who was shot dead following a traffic accident in Houston, Texas.

Thaylien Brindis and Eliany Gómez, two Cuban women who died in March in Las Vegas, received their final farewell from loved ones in their homeland, Santiago de Cuba, thanks to the support of the Cuban emigrant community.
