Missing Miami Cuban’s Family Seeks Help After Disappearance in Mexico

Thursday, June 27, 2024 by Samantha Mendoza

The family of a Cuban resident of Miami who went missing earlier this month in Tabasco, Mexico during a business and tourism trip is pleading for assistance in locating him. Oscar Luis Marcos Roso, 62, vanished in the municipality of Tenosique, Tabasco, on June 4th around 2:00 PM.

At approximately that time, his family in Miami, Florida had their last phone conversation with him, and since then, his whereabouts remain unknown. Kassandra and Alejandro Marcos Roso, siblings of Oscar Luis, traveled 3,900 kilometers from Florida, United States, to southern Mexico to search for him.

Details of the Disappearance

In an interview with radio station XEVT, published on their Facebook page, Kassandra shared details of the trip that led her brother to Mexican soil, where he disappeared a few days after arriving. “He planned a trip at the end of last month, beginning of this one, to here, the southern part of Mexico, mainly Tabasco. He entered the country on June 1st,” she explained, noting that days before traveling, Oscar Luis had contacted a woman on Facebook, residing in Villahermosa.

Kassandra emphasized that her brother is very close to his family and would regularly communicate with them during his travels to inform them of his whereabouts or when he arrived at his hotel. According to his sister, he confirmed that he had met the woman he connected with on social media and stayed with her in a hotel on June 3rd.

On June 4th, Oscar Luis sent an audio message to his sister, saying that he had visited a friend’s house and was on his way to Cárdenas. “That was his last conversation with me,” Kassandra stated, finding it strange that after 2:00 PM—the time he sent the audio—he did not contact her again.

"Since we are not used to that, we naturally took action to have someone in this area report it to the Prosecutor’s Office and the relevant authorities for his search. My brother has been missing since June 4th," she noted.

"My brother Alejandro and I came to Villahermosa, we are here for support from the Prosecutor's Office or any means to find our brother," she explained. She mentioned that the Prosecutor’s Office has attended to them since their arrival but has seen little progress in the investigation. "We are doing everything to ensure our brother is found," she stressed.

Ongoing Investigation

Oscar Luis traveled to Mexico in his own car. It was reported that in mid-June, the police detained three men who were transporting a person deprived of liberty in the Cuban’s vehicle. Kassandra believes the arrested kidnappers know what happened to her brother but, according to her, they have not given any statements, supposedly invoking human rights laws.

“My brother traveled to Mexico in his car, a Toyota Tacoma 2024. The High Impact Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that his car was used in a kidnapping; those now-imprisoned individuals used my brother’s car,” she indicated.

Kassandra and Alejandro called on the people of Tabasco for help in finding Oscar Luis. “As his family, as his sister, my brother here with me, we appeal to the public, to those watching us to have compassion. You watching, please have compassion, I know there are many kind-hearted people here, and if you have seen him or know anything, please inform us,” she pleaded.

“My brother is a family man, a good person, very beloved by everyone, and does not deserve what is happening to him, and we as a family do not deserve this immense pain either,” she added, while the video displayed photos of Oscar Luis with various family members.

The Cuban’s family announced a reward for anyone who, in good faith and verifiably, helps them locate their brother. “Join this family's pain, please,” Kassandra urged.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Oscar Luis Marcos Roso can contact the phone number 9933136550, extension 4210, of the General State Prosecutor’s Office Search Unit.

Oscar Luis has straight, short, gray hair, dark brown eyes; he is approximately 1.60 meters tall, weighs around 75 kg, and has a birthmark on his right leg, according to a "Missing Person" report released by the Prosecutor's Office. It is unknown what he was wearing when he disappeared in Tenosique, according to the notice.

Authorities consider the Cuban's physical integrity to be at risk.
