A "caballito eléctrico", colloquially known in Cuba as the safety mechanism placed on electricity poles near the transformer, exploded and caught fire on a street in Santiago de Cuba.
The incident took place on Aguilera Street, between San Miguel and Hernán Cortés, right in the heart of the city. Independent journalist Yosmany Mayeta Labrada reported the incident on Facebook, noting that it left an entire neighborhood without electricity, a situation residents endure every week.
"The other day they patched it up because the 'caballito' exploded, and they came at 2 in the morning, and now look, the same problem again," said a neighbor affected by the issue.
The local residents are fed up with the ongoing situation and having to always wait for the authorities to fix the defect without a permanent solution. "I hope that when they repair it, they do it right and not like last time. It's unacceptable that we face this every week!" the woman emphasized.
