Mongolia has donated $1 million to the United Nations' World Food Program (WFP) in Cuba to support the food security of vulnerable people and pregnant women on the island. The Camagüey-based broadcaster Radio Cadena Agramonte reported that this contribution will benefit approximately 50,000 people, including 2,900 pregnant women and over 44,600 vulnerable individuals in the central provinces of Villa Clara and Cienfuegos.

The donation was handed over in the form of food by the Asian nation's ambassador to Cuba, Zoljargal Seseer, and includes 400 metric tons of rice, 107 metric tons of cooking oil, and 250 metric tons of grains, according to the diplomat. The donated food will be distributed through local stores as part of the rationed family basket, said the Cuban regime.

Long-Standing Diplomatic Relations

During the delivery of the donation, Seseer highlighted that Cuba and Mongolia have maintained diplomatic relations since 1960, when the island became the first country in the Americas to establish diplomatic ties with the Asian nation. Other countries have also made donations to the island amid its severe food crisis.

In April, the Chinese government sent a donation of 68 tons of rice, part of a total of 408 tons that will be shipped to Havana to help alleviate food shortages. Additionally, in January, a donation of 500 kilograms of medical supplies and powdered milk arrived from Asturias, while in March, Canada sent 150 tons of the dairy product.
