Sunday, June 30, 2024 by Sofia Valdez

Two daring young men managed to rescue a large hammerhead shark that was stranded on a beach in Miami. The enormous shark was found on the sand when the two youths decided to grab it by the horns of its distinctive head and pull it back into the ocean.

"Wow! These guys caught a huge hammerhead shark in Miami and were able to safely release it shortly after!" reported the page Only in Dade, sharing a video of the incident.

Shark Warnings in Florida

At the beginning of June, Florida authorities warned swimmers about the presence of sharks in the Gulf of Mexico coast after three people suffered serious attacks. While patrolling the beaches on the west coast, officers noted an increased presence of sharks in the so-called Panhandle area, which includes the 18 westernmost counties of the state.

Authorities even temporarily closed several beaches after a woman and two teenagers were injured in shark attacks in Walton County. The beaches were reopened but with red flags (high-risk conditions) and purple flags (indicating the presence of dangerous marine life) warning of the danger.

In mid-April, a hammerhead shark, also known as a cornuda cruz, attacked the cork raft of some Cuban fishermen near the coast of Havana. "What a crazy thing! Look at it biting the cork. Here it comes again! It's not going to knock us over, but... what a shark. These are stories that only we experience," said one of the fishermen involved in the surprising encounter at sea.

Earlier this year, three hammerhead sharks caused astonishment by reaching the very shore of a beach in Florida, where beachgoers couldn't believe what they were seeing. The event occurred at sunset on Anna Maria Island, a barrier island located off the coast of Manatee County. The video of the curious incident showed a group of people standing at the water's edge, marveling at the spectacle of the three sharks flapping at their feet.
