Robeisy Ramírez delivered a stunning knockout to Mexican fighter Brandon León Benítez on Saturday at the James L. Knight Center in Miami Beach, marking a significant step towards his goal of reclaiming the World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight title.
The Cuban boxer dominated the first six rounds, winning each one handily. At 2:46 minutes into the seventh round, he landed a powerful hook that left his opponent on the canvas for several minutes.
"My trainer Ismael Salas told me not to go for the power punch, that this fight was all about technique, and to return to my roots. That's how the punch landed, which is something I've done many times in my career," Ramírez said in the center of the ring, as quoted by ESPN.
The fighter from Cienfuegos boasts a record of 14-2-0, with nine of those victories achieved by devastating knockouts. His friend and compatriot Yordenis Ugás congratulated him on his impressive performance.
"The whole team is very happy. Now we have to work even harder. With this performance, the next fight should be another world title opportunity and it will be much tougher. The goal is to become champion again," Ugás said on Instagram.
Following this significant victory, Ramírez aims for a rematch against Mexican fighter Rafael Espinoza, who stripped him of his WBA featherweight title last December in Pembroke Pines, Florida.
The 30-year-old boxer announced in May that he would return to the ring in Miami to try to reclaim his WBO title.
"On June 29, my mission to regain my world title and return to the top, where I know I belong, begins. Cuba vs. Mexico once again, and I'm excited to have the loyal support of the Cuban community in Miami. So bring your flag," he wrote on social media.
"It will be an electrifying event. The journey is far from over. My comeback will be legendary. El Tren returns!" he added.
