A Cuban professor tragically lost his life after his motorcycle collided with a truck this past Saturday in the city of Holguín.

The victim of the fatal accident was identified as Miguel Ángel Almaguer Oro, 55, an entrepreneur and former instructor at the School of Hospitality and Tourism (Formatur) in Holguín, according to a post by his colleague and friend Eduardo Puente.

"Around 1 PM today, Saturday, June 29, our beloved professor Miguelito crashed his motorcycle into a parked truck on Frexes Street in Holguín, and did not survive the impact," Puente reported.

"The devastating news has spread, and it has deeply affected us all," Puente added, highlighting Almaguer's career as an Economics professor at the institution under the Ministry of Tourism. "His professionalism and charisma stood out in the entire field and the Formatur family, earning him the respect and affection of colleagues across the country," he assured.

"Miguel had become a well-known entrepreneur, but he always carried with him the fondest memories of his work as a professor and worker in the tourism sector," Puente noted. According to Almaguer's social media, he had started his own business, GT&F (Gestión Tributaria y Financiera), at the beginning of 2023.

Puente also described his friend as a "true follower of Martí," with whom he exchanged anecdotes about José Martí via messenger. He announced that the wake for Almaguer would take place on Saturday night. Almaguer is survived by his wife, children, and grandchildren.

"To them, our heartfelt message: ‘If I die, do not die with me; do what I did, and I will continue living in you,’" Puente expressed. "Fly high, brother, now reunited with your beloved mother. You were an exceptional friend, son, father, and grandfather. May the Lord receive you in His home. Amen."
