A tourist car crashed into a post this Sunday at the well-known Tejas Corner in the Cerro municipality of Havana.
Photos shared in the Facebook group "ACCIDENTES BUSES & CAMIONES por más experiencia y menos víctimas!" by user Dania Gutiérrez Cala show the severe damage the vehicle sustained. "That's when you come from Infanta and turn right to look for Monte, the background is the 20-story park," she detailed in a comment.
"And the driver came out fine, although it seems incredible," she noted.
Another group member named Javier Ernesto Ocaña López recounted that the car passed him on Infanta street at 100 kilometers per hour, and after the collision, he was the one who assisted the driver and called the SIUM (Emergency Medical Services). "It's one thing to have a bad day and crash versus destroying a car like that under the influence of alcohol. He could have just as easily run over a pedestrian, whether it be a child, a young person, or an adult," he questioned.
"Just from the driver's speech, you could strongly smell the alcohol on his breath," he assured. According to Ocaña López, if the driver is alive, it is thanks to the deployment of both airbags, his and the passenger seat's.
In another post in the same group, he detailed that the left-side tires lifted when turning at such high speed, and with the impact, the car lost its front license plate. "He passed me on Infanta street at over 100, I was in my Moskvitch, and it almost blew me away. At that speed, he hit the knife-edge of Tejas Corner, and that's the result. Head-on into the iron post there, he should thank God and the airbag that deployed. He was driving with more than 100 degrees of alcohol in his drinks. God bless him and may nothing bad happen to him, because the pain starts now. Alcohol and driving don't mix," he stressed.
"Thank God there were no people walking at that hour, otherwise, he would have hit someone," he emphasized.
