A young Cuban living in Houston recently took to TikTok to enthusiastically showcase his latest acquisition, a Suzuki AX 100 motorcycle, stirring up nostalgia about his life in Cuba.
In a video shared from his account @jorge_drake1992, which has garnered nearly 7,000 likes and over 800 comments in just one day, Jorge proudly displayed his new bike. "Memories are memories," he captioned the post.
"Look at this, my people, what I just bought here in Houston to remind me of when I lived in Cuba," he began in the video, where he predicted that some would criticize him for "bringing Cuba's backwardness, its crap, communism," opinions he encouraged viewers to ignore. Instead, he urged everyone to do what makes them happy.
"My people, buy whatever you like, and if it makes you feel good and reminds you of your time in Cuba, get whatever you want," he added.
"Look at this, brand new, Texas plates. They say remembering is living again. Let's start it up to see how it sounds. Oh, this is perfect, my people. Let's go now. Look at this beauty, my people. An AX 100 all over Houston. Brand new," he said in the video, where he is seen joyfully riding his new toy.
The video not only showcased this Cuban's happiness but also sparked a wave of reactions on TikTok.
Reactions on TikTok
As he anticipated, some comments were negative, mostly referring to who owned those motorcycles in Cuba: "That bike is for undercover agents"; "If you used it in Cuba, you were from G2, only they had them"; "Bro, my only memory of that is when they came to get me, I don't even want to see it"; "Sounds like a tin can"; "So you're remembering being a MININT officer in Cuba because those bikes were for MININT officers"; "Those are the State Security bikes"; "That's what the communist informants in Cuba ride... if remembering is living, you must have your reasons," some commented among the hundreds of messages.
Many others, however, celebrated his purchase and defended his right to enjoy his memories and spend his money as he wishes: "Congratulations, here you can buy whatever you want with your money, don't pay attention"; "Brother, remembering is living again"; "Blessings and enjoy, the money is yours"; "Very nice bike, enjoy it"; "Congratulations, my brother, remembering is living again"; "That's right, brother"; "Don't listen to anyone, you have to be happy and that's it"; "That's awesome, bro, reminiscing about old times, I wish I had one here"; "Super nice, man, I love it, make more videos," they told him.
Some even expressed their desire to get a similar bike and asked for more information: "Where can I get one?"; "I want one"; "Brother, how much did it cost?"; "Where did you buy it? I'm from Houston."
