Outrage Over Cuban Mother's Assault on Her Young Son
Description not available

A harrowing case of child abuse involving a two-year-old boy at the hands of his own mother in the municipality of Nuevitas, Camagüey, has left hundreds of Cubans in shock in recent hours. Disturbing images circulating on social media show the boy brutally beaten and even bitten on his arms.

Community Reacts to Child Abuse Allegations

"The custody of her baby is with her mother, but she had to go to Havana for medical reasons and left the child with the young woman (because you can't call her a mother)," a whistleblower told activist Diasniurka Salcedo Verdecia, who has been one of the most vocal in condemning the incident.

"This happened on Saturday night; she wanted to go out partying and leave the child sleeping. The child wouldn’t sleep, and that's why she beat him until she was exhausted," the source added.

According to the report, during the assault, the child began to cry desperately, prompting neighbors to call the police. After her arrest, the woman tested positive for drug use.

The perpetrator of this horrific act has been identified as Carla Calero Cantelys and is reportedly free after posting a bail of 10,000 pesos.

"'This person' beat her child, nearly killed him, and is out on bail. No, no, and no. She’s from Camagüey. Share this. Justice," denounced Salcedo Verdecia, urging the authorities to do their job. In a more recent post, the activist, who currently resides in Miami, cited another testimony about the critical family situation from which the boy comes.

The child's father is reportedly in prison for a "beef" case, adding to the fact that the mother accused of severe child abuse was raped in her childhood or adolescence by her stepfather, who is also in prison. "None of them are any good," concluded the source, affirming that the young woman is mentally unstable.

Diasniurka Salcedo criticized the authorities, stating it is inconceivable that a woman responsible for such an atrocity could be free on bail, while someone who shouts "freedom!" is sentenced to 14 years in prison.

Although the complaint has gone viral through activists and Facebook groups in recent hours, Diasniurka Salcedo lamented that the complaint was removed from some groups in Camagüey.

Beyond the lukewarm response from the authorities, social shaming is a fact, as the accused woman's Facebook profile has been flooded with offensive messages.

"The most beautiful thing I have in this world. I love you, my baby," reads a caption alongside a photo posted by Carla in June 2022, now filled with messages condemning her for the grave act she is accused of.

As of the close of this article, official media outlets have not commented on the viral complaint of child abuse in Camagüey.
