Striking Images of Hurricane Beryl's Eye

Tuesday, July 2, 2024 by Daniel Colon

Hurricane Beryl, with winds exceeding 155 mph, placing it in Category 5, the highest on the Saffir-Simpson scale, has shown its destructive power through striking images of its eye. A reconnaissance plane ventured into the cyclone’s center, capturing its perfect structure as seen in the images and video published by Hurricane Hunters on the social media platform X.

"A look into Hurricane Beryl's eye today," the profile posted, explaining that Beryl became "the first Atlantic storm to reach Category 5 status on Monday night, though it was downgraded to Category 4 on Tuesday."

NOAA's Reconnaissance Flight

This Monday, another reconnaissance plane, this time from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) of the United States, captured stunning images of the powerful Hurricane Beryl, which was at Category 4 at that moment.

In the video shared on X, part of the atmospheric phenomenon is clearly visible, making landfall on Monday morning on Carriacou, a small island in Grenada, where wind gusts reached up to 150 mph.

Satellite images also captured the cyclone’s power this Sunday. “Incredible satellite images of the agitated Category 4 Hurricane Beryl and its impressive but dangerous eye approaching the Windward Islands,” wrote Weather/Meteo World on their X account, accompanied by a video showing the hurricane's size.

Beryl's Impact on Cuba

Although forecasts predict that Hurricane Beryl's eye will remain well away from Cuban territory, the island will be on the "dirty side" of the powerful meteorological event, meaning the side with the strongest winds and rains.

According to the forecast from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), some areas of the country could experience wind gusts up to 39 mph from early Wednesday through Thursday.
