Woman in Critical Condition After Being Stabbed by Partner in Santiago de Cuba
Description not available

A Cuban woman is in critical condition at the Saturnino Lora Provincial Hospital after being stabbed by her partner last Saturday. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, underwent emergency surgery after the knife attack damaged her kidney and colon, according to journalist Yosmany Mayeta.

However, in recent hours, sources familiar with the case have called for help, stating that the woman's condition has worsened. "The young woman has an infected wound and has been short of breath since last night. There is no oxygen tank available, and even if there were, there's no manometer. The family is desperate. She feels so bad that she's saying goodbye, thinking she's going to die," a witness detailed.

The same witness noted that the nurses say there are no resources. "They gave her a portable oxygen unit that doesn't even work. This cries out to heaven," the source lamented in statements to the aforementioned journalist.

Yosmany Mayeta Labrada has called on PCC Secretary Beatriz Johnson Urrutia and provincial health authorities to take action and not let a young woman, who was also the victim of an attempted femicide, die. "This young woman's health hangs by a thread. If God has kept her alive, you 'lifesavers' cannot let her die because of your inefficiency and poor work. There are resources for the bosses," the journalist wrote.

Adding to the complaint about inadequate healthcare is the outrage over the aggressor's release on bail for 5,000 pesos. "It is unfair that her assailant is free as if nothing happened, as if the person he stabbed was an animal, that he can attack without consequence. The life of a woman cannot be worth 5,000 Cuban pesos. Who are you to put a price on women's lives?" the journalist questioned.

In a more recent update this Wednesday, the journalist reported that the young woman's condition has worsened. Her wound appears to be infected due to "remnants" left after emergency surgery. From the hospital, a witness indicated that they are considering taking her back to the operating room and that her condition is delicate. As of the closing of this article, no further details about the case have been confirmed.
