The stellar Cuban boxer Robeisy Ramírez expressed his gratitude to his followers for their support during his latest fight. On Wednesday, he reminded everyone that he had fulfilled his promise to return in grand fashion during the event held in Miami, Florida.
"Thank you, Miami! I promised you my comeback would be legendary. This is just a glimpse of what's to come. I appreciate all my fans for their support," wrote "El Tren" on his Facebook page.
Although the date and opponent for his next bout remain unknown, the two-time Olympic champion (London 2012 and Rio de Janeiro 2016) made it clear that he is determined to reclaim the World Boxing Organization (WBO) featherweight title or secure a belt from other professional entities.
On June 29, Ramírez delivered a spectacular knockout to Mexican boxer Brandon León Benítez at the James L. Knight Center in Miami Beach, marking his return to victory after losing to fellow Mexican Rafael Espinoza in December.
In the mentioned fight, the Cuban pugilist led the offense in the first six rounds, and at 2:46 minutes into the seventh round, he landed a powerful hook that left his opponent sitting on the mat for several minutes.
"My trainer, Ismael Salas, told me not to go for the power punch, that this fight was about technique, to go back to my roots. That's how the punch came, something I've done many times in my career," he said in the center of the ring, as quoted by ESPN.
Following the convincing performance, the fighter from Cienfuegos boasts a record of 14 wins and two losses, with nine of those victories by knockout.
At 30 years old, the boxer had announced last May that he would return to the ring in Miami to attempt to regain his WBO title.
"June 29 marks the start of my mission to reclaim my world title and return to the top, where I know I belong. Cuba vs. Mexico once again, and I'm excited to have the loyal support of the Cuban community in Miami. So bring your flag," he wrote on social media.
"It will be an electrifying event. The journey is far from over. My comeback will be legendary. The Train is back!" he added at that time.
