A two-year-old Cuban boy who suffered a severe beating at the hands of his own mother is now in good health after recovering from his injuries. The child, who resides in the Nuevitas municipality of Camagüey, has healed quickly and is currently staying with his maternal grandmother, according to activist Diasniurka Salcedo Verdecia on Facebook.
"Seeing his little face made my day, thank you all for sharing! Remember, where there is a will, there is a way, and children should never be harmed. If you touch a child and I find out, I assure you justice will be served! Children were born to be happy!" she expressed.
Diasniurka urged anyone who knows of other children in similar situations to report it. "Remaining silent makes you complicit. Justice will be served in this case!" she emphasized.
The case of this boy caused outrage among hundreds of Cubans after heartbreaking images of the brutally beaten child, even bearing bite marks on his arms, were shared on social media.
Details of the Incident
"The custody of her baby is held by her mother, but she had to travel to Havana for medical reasons and left the child with the girl (she can't be called a mother)," a whistleblower told the activist.
"This happened on Saturday night; she wanted to go out partying and leave the child sleeping. The child wouldn't sleep, so she 'beat him until exhaustion,'" the source added.
During the assault, the boy began to cry desperately, and it was the neighbors who called the Police.
After her arrest, the woman was subjected to medical tests, which revealed she was under the influence of narcotics.
The perpetrator of this horrendous act was identified as Carla Calero Cantelys, who is reportedly free after paying a bail of 10,000 pesos.
"This 'thing' beat her child, almost killed him, and is now out on bail. No, no, and no. She is from Camagüey. Share this. Justice," Salcedo Verdecia denounced.
In a more recent post, the activist mentioned that the boy's father is in prison for a case related to "beef," adding that the accused mother was reportedly raped during her childhood or adolescence by her stepfather, who is also in prison.
