The Cuban actor and comedian Alexis Valdés has expressed deep sorrow on social media following the death of his colleague Carlos Massola. On his Instagram account, Valdés shared a heartfelt message reminiscing about how he met Massola and the moments they shared at Radio Progreso.

Memories from the 80s

"Carlos Massola was a really good guy. We met in the 80s. He was an actor who had already done some significant work. I was just starting out. We did a radio soap opera together. It was the first time young actors were admitted to Radio Progreso. It was directed by Carlos Vilela. Also involved were Luisa María Jiménez, Renecito de la Cruz, Marlén Castell, Irela Bravo (a radio classic), and some other names that one unforgivably forgets,” Alexis began.

“With Carlos Massola, everything was laughter. His prank calls were epic. And we had this parody we came up with about encountering a bear on the street. He played the bear. We would pretend to run into each other, and I would try to greet him casually, as if he were just another person. We would laugh so hard. We'd try to do it again, and we'd burst into laughter again. Over the years, every time we met, we’d give each other a big hug,” the comedian recalled.

A Noble Heart Behind Tough Roles

For Alexis, behind Massola’s large frame and the tough characters he played, there was a kind heart: “He had that big body and stern face that allowed him to play dangerous, complex, difficult roles. Tough guys. But behind all that was a very noble, genuine, kind, sociable, brave human being with an endless desire to laugh.”

“It's a shame that those who make our lives better leave us so soon. It's a shame his life wasn't better, as I believe he deserved. I love you, brother. When we meet again, we'll do our greeting and laugh once more. It’s all such a shame. But I will always remember you as fun, always playing like a child,” Alexis lamented in his post.

In addition to the comedian, other artists have reacted to Massola's passing on April 3. The Cuban community remembers him not only for his talent but also for his integrity and courage in voicing his political opinions against the dictatorship on the island, facing the challenges this brought to his career and personal life.
