A man was arrested on Thursday accused of leaving his daughter behind at a CVS store in Miami after stealing beer from the establishment. The 58-year-old man, identified as Elpidio Amores, entered the store located at 170 Southeast 3rd Avenue with a stroller carrying two children, a girl and a boy.

Amores headed to the beer section, situated just a few meters from the entrance, and while selecting the beverage, a three-year-old girl got out of the stroller without him noticing, according to Telemundo 51, citing the police report as a source.

After placing the beer on top of the stroller, the man quickly exited the store without paying and without realizing that the little girl had been left behind. Upon noticing that one of his children was not with him, the man hurried back to the store, and at that moment, was detained by Miami police.

The store clerks called the police after finding a child alone in the store. In addition to the charge of theft, the man is being investigated by the Special Victims Unit due to the circumstances in which he lost sight of his daughter. The Department of Children and Families will follow up on the children's situation, said the police.
