A young Cuban named Lester Domínguez, who has not been able to walk since being assaulted in Holguín last March, will begin a new rehabilitation technique on Monday aimed at helping him stand upright. Lester is currently admitted to the Julio Díaz Hospital in Havana, where he will start using a standing frame, a device that allows a person to be positioned in an upright stance. This vertical posture helps prevent musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, and respiratory complications, among others.

Additionally, Lester is engaging in respiratory exercises and other rehabilitation activities, receiving ozone therapy, and following a diet to address low body fat. "He feels very healthy and somewhat optimistic about his recovery," said his father, Dennis Domínguez, on Facebook.

Lester Domínguez started this new phase of rehabilitation last Monday, coinciding with his 19th birthday. He traveled from Holguín to Julio Díaz Hospital in Havana seeking advanced techniques to continue his recovery.

"Lester thinks he might be able to start walking in two months. We hope that faith becomes reality with the resources available at this hospital. He advises his followers to stay safe, as Cuba is currently experiencing high levels of violence and murder, with very lenient laws," Dennis stated on his Facebook wall.

The young man decided to continue his rehabilitation in Havana after spending a year and three months unable to take a step. During this time, he has gained more strength in his arms and legs and has regained sensation throughout his body. This progress gives hope to both him and his father.

At the end of May, Dennis revealed that he was trying to get Lester admitted to Julio Díaz Hospital to start some therapy that might enable him to walk again. At that time, Lester had asked to leave the country, realizing that the conditions in Cuba were not conducive to his recovery.

"The boy sees that everything is complicated by the power outages in Cuba and lacks the necessary conditions for his progress. He tells me the best way I can help him is by leaving the country," Dennis said. "We have a lot of family abroad, but we are always left with one hand tied behind our backs. To avoid begging for his recovery, he asked me to try through Nicaragua. I'll see if I can fulfill his wish, even if it's the last thing I do," he emphasized.
