A man murdered his ex-father-in-law and severely injured his ex-partner and a young neighbor, aged just 21, in Suferry, a rural village in Ciego de Ávila, according to reports on social media.

The alleged perpetrator has been identified as Richard Sánchez Ferrales, a man who was on leave from the prison where he is incarcerated. On the night of July 8, he entered his ex-partner's house and first killed his ex-father-in-law, Félix Morales, a 70-year-old man who was fatally attacked with a machete from behind.

Afterwards, Sánchez Ferrales reportedly attacked Yumary Morales Guerra, his ex-partner, with the same weapon, leaving her severely wounded. Although she is still fighting for her life, according to crime reporter Niover Licea, who based his report on sources familiar with the case.

Yoledys Díaz Batista, a young neighbor and friend of Yumary who came to support the family, also ended up suffering a violent injury to her arm, raising fears that she might lose the limb. An initial version of the violent incident mentioned the presence of a third injured person, a minor, which has fortunately been refuted by both Licea and the Facebook group Denunciando Crímenes en Cuba, which also reported the tragic event.

The two injured women are reportedly hospitalized in the municipality of Morón.

Dozens of internet users have expressed their shock over the incident, which once again highlights the increasing violence plaguing Cuban society in all its forms.

As usual in such cases, there has been no confirmation from official sources about the tragedy. If verified by feminist platforms, this incident would add to the growing list of victims of gender violence in Cuba this year.
