Actor George Clooney, a well-known Democratic activist and personal friend of Joe Biden, has joined voices within the Democratic Party calling for the president to step down from his re-election campaign. In an article published in the New York Times, Clooney argued that Biden is too old to continue leading the country and warned that if he doesn't withdraw, the party will lose the election.

"I love Joe Biden. As a senator. As a vice president and as a president. I consider him a friend and I believe in him. I believe in his character. I believe in his morals. Over the last four years, he has won many of the battles he has faced. But the one battle he cannot win is the fight against time. None of us can," Clooney wrote.

The Ocean's Eleven star referred to a recent Biden fundraiser he hosted in June, where he noticed the president's deterioration. "It's devastating to say, but the Joe Biden I saw three weeks ago at the fundraiser was not the Joe Biden of 2010. It wasn't even the Joe Biden of 2020. It was the same man we all saw in the debate," he stated.

"Was he tired? Yes. A cold? Maybe. But the leaders of our parties need to stop telling us that 51 million people didn't see what we just saw. We are all so terrified by the prospect of a second Trump term that we have chosen to ignore all the warning signs," Clooney added.

"We hold our breath or turn down the volume every time we see the president, whom we respect, disembark from Air Force One or walk toward a microphone to answer an unscripted question," he detailed.

The celebrated Hollywood actor expressed that he has spoken privately with congress members and governors who share his concerns. He suggested that the party should choose a new candidate at next month's convention. While he acknowledged that the process would be "messy," he believes it would "wake up" voters.

Clooney mentioned other potential candidates such as Vice President Kamala Harris, Governor Wes Moore of Maryland, Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, and Governor Gavin Newsom of California.

"Is it fair to point these things out? It has to be. It's about age. Nothing more, but also nothing that can be reversed. We won't win in November with this president," he emphasized.
