A Cuban resident in Texas is currently on the run after murdering his ex-partner, a young Cuban woman, in a hotel in Greenville, northeast of Dallas. The victim, identified as Myladis Ramírez, 28, was strangled by her ex-partner Pedro Ríos, 44, at the Express Inn & Suites hotel early last Friday morning. The man fled the scene shortly after, as reported by crime reporter Niover Licea.
Ramírez was the mother of two young children, who remained in the care of her family in Cuba when she emigrated to the United States over a year ago. The young woman, originally from La Habana, lived in the Lutgardita neighborhood in the Boyeros municipality.
In Texas, she worked for a company installing solar panels and lived in Houston. She was in Greenville for work and staying at the mentioned hotel. On the night of the crime, Ríos arrived at the location and entered the premises around 2 AM, according to security footage provided to Licea by people close to the victim. He was seen leaving the hotel hours later.
During the morning, family members and coworkers tried to contact Ramírez but received no response. Her body was discovered in the afternoon by a hotel employee who entered the room to clean it.
According to Licea, Ríos had been released from prison about a month prior, where he had been incarcerated for assaulting his first wife, with whom he has a child. He was also arrested last year by Texas police for driving a vehicle with a fake license plate.
Authorities have requested public assistance in locating the fugitive and urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
Milagros Ramírez, the victim's sister, announced her death on Facebook while expressing gratitude for the concern shown by many people. “Good evening, I want to inform all my friends that my beautiful sister Myladis is no longer with us. I just want to thank everyone for their concern,” she wrote.
Additionally, she asked for financial help to bring her sister’s body back home. “I will never have enough time to thank everyone. We just want to have her with us one last time,” she expressed.
Relatives and friends of Ramírez have started a fundraising campaign to repatriate her body to Cuba so her family can say their final goodbyes. “Today, I am asking for help from anyone who can donate, whether it's $1, $2, or $3; it will be appreciated with our lives. Please help this devastated family,” said a friend of the deceased in a TikTok video.
Last Saturday, another Cuban man murdered his wife in Tampa, Florida. Liannet Sosa Santos, 31, originally from Sietecito in Sagua La Grande, Villa Clara, and mother of a five-year-old girl, was killed by her husband, Silvio Ramón Franco Peralta, 35.
