Yumary Morales Guerra, the woman attacked with a knife by her ex-partner last week in Suferry, a rural town in Ciego de Ávila, has died after spending several days fighting for her life in a local hospital, according to recent social media reports.

The assailant, identified as Richard Sánchez Ferrales, was on prison leave when on the night of July 8, he entered the home of his ex-partner and first killed her father, Félix Morales, a 70-year-old man who was mortally wounded with a machete. Sánchez Ferrales then attacked Yumary Morales Guerra with the same weapon, leaving her severely injured. Unfortunately, she could not overcome the severity of her injuries.

Yoledys Díaz Batista, a young neighbor and friend of Yumary who came to the family's aid, also suffered a violent arm injury and remains hospitalized.

This Monday, crime reporter Niover Licea updated that, tragically, Yumary Morales has passed away, but fortunately, Yoledys Díaz has not lost her arm as previously feared.

As is common in such cases, there has been no official confirmation of the tragedy from government sources. Feminist platforms echoed the incident last week before Yumary Morales' death was confirmed.
