Cuban Blackouts: "Heat Becomes the Morning Alarm"

Wednesday, July 17, 2024 by Alexander Flores

A young Cuban recounted his bitter experience with "brief moments of electricity" and claimed that the residents' alarm clock on the island is the heat. "It's no longer about blackouts but about those fleeting moments of electricity. The new Cuban alarm clock is the heat. It never fails. When they cut the power at 6:00 AM, you wake up instantly," said David Lit (@onlit6) on TikTok.

His video was posted in May when the government claimed there would be disruptions to the electrical service due to repairs at the country's Thermoelectric Plants, to ensure the proper functioning of the National Electro-Energy System during the summer.

However, summer arrived several weeks ago, and the blackouts continue to give no respite to the Cuban people.
