The Russian airline Rossiya will resume its flights from Moscow to Havana starting October 13th, initially offering a weekly schedule. The airline announced that tickets are now available for purchase on the Aeroflot website for Sunday flights.

According to the airline, cited by the Cuban agency Prensa Latina, Havana is in high demand among Russian travelers, who see it as one of the main tourist attractions of the island, along with its beaches. Rossiya was responsible for resuming direct air service between the two capitals in December last year, a service that was suspended during the pandemic.

In the few months that Rossiya operated this new route (from December to May), around 20,000 passengers used their flights. At that time, there were two flights from Moscow: one at 8:40 am on Wednesdays and another at 10:50 am on Sundays, arriving in Havana at 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm respectively. Return flights departed from Havana at 6:15 pm, arriving in Russia at 3:15 pm the next day.

The first flight took place on Sunday, December 24th, from Sheremetyevo International Airport to the Cuban capital. Operations between Cuba and Russia were reinstated on July 1st of the previous year when the airline Nordwind resumed flights to Varadero and Cayo Coco.
