President Joe Biden has tested positive for COVID-19 during his stay in Las Vegas, after exhibiting mild symptoms of the illness, the White House announced. Biden is experiencing mild symptoms, including a runny nose, non-productive cough, and general discomfort, but he is vaccinated and boosted, according to an official statement.

The statement also mentioned that the president will return to Delaware, where he will isolate in accordance with CDC guidelines for symptomatic individuals and continue to fully perform all his duties from his home in Rehoboth. The White House will provide regular updates on his condition as he continues his presidential responsibilities during isolation.

In a statement, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre noted that the president tested positive "after his first event in Las Vegas" and reminded the public that Biden had already scheduled his return to Delaware following his trip to the Nevada city.

Medical Details and Response

Dr. Kevin O’Connor, the president's physician, explained that Biden's symptoms began with upper respiratory issues. Although he felt capable of continuing with his agenda, he decided to take a COVID-19 test when his symptoms did not improve, resulting in a positive outcome. Subsequently, he was administered a first dose of Paxlovid, a medication known to reduce the likelihood of hospitalization or death in COVID-19 cases.

The medical report indicates that Biden does not have a fever, his respiratory rate is normal, his temperature is 97.8°F, and his pulse oximetry is 97%. At 81 years old, Biden has maintained a full schedule in Nevada this week, amid recent concerns about his health and abilities following his performance in the debate with former President Donald Trump in late June. Nevertheless, he asserts that his nearly 60 years in politics make him uniquely qualified to lead the country.

In 2022, Biden also tested positive for COVID-19.
