Thursday, July 18, 2024 by Emily Vargas

A Cuban man, along with four others, was involved in a violent altercation involving stones and knives at a beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands. The man suffered head and limb injuries but was subsequently arrested by the police on charges of attempted murder, mass brawl, threats, and bodily harm.

In addition to the 18-year-old Cuban, whose identity remains undisclosed, the police also arrested three others involved in the fight: a 32-year-old Colombian and two Argentinians, aged 31 and 32, who were also injured. Their names have not been released either.

The incident occurred on Saturday, July 6th, after 7 p.m., when five individuals clashed in a brutal fight at the crowded Playa de las Burras, located between the neighborhoods of Las Galletas and El Fraile, according to a statement on the local police blog.

Police shared footage of the violent brawl, showing knives being brandished and stones being thrown. In the video, beachgoers appear shocked, and a woman can be heard screaming, "Oh my... he's killing him!" before pleading with another person, "Call the police! Call the police, please! Don't record, call the police!"

At 7:25 p.m., the Arona Local Police received multiple emergency calls about the mass brawl, prompting a patrol car to rush to the scene. The suspects fled on foot upon seeing the patrol car, but with the help of witnesses, officers located two of them about 200 meters away.

The Cuban man had a large bleeding wound on his head and injuries to his limbs, according to the police report. He and the Colombian man told officers they had been attacked by three young men, one of whom was armed with a large knife.

They also indicated that two of the attackers had fled, but one was still on the beach. The police report noted that the night before, the three alleged attackers had attempted to break into the Cuban man's house and had "threatened to kill" him.

However, officers found a large knife on the Cuban man, which he had tried to discard upon seeing the police. Four patrol cars from the Arona Local Police and one from the Civil Guard managed to locate the 31-year-old Argentinian on the beach. He had a puncture wound on his face, apparently inflicted with a screwdriver.

A fourth individual involved in the fight, also of Argentinian origin, was found in the El Fraile neighborhood. He, too, had injuries from the brawl.

The four men were treated by Basic Life Support ambulance personnel and then taken to healthcare centers for specialized medical attention. After receiving medical care, they were arrested and charged with mass brawl, threats, and bodily harm. The Cuban and Colombian men also face charges of attempted murder.

The arrested individuals were taken to the Main Station of the Civil Guard in Playa de Las Américas, where they were placed in cells awaiting judicial proceedings.
