Yordenis Ugás revealed this Wednesday that the man detained in Cuba after entering the country on a jetski contacted him years ago for "some plans," which he declined, citing his opposition to violence.

In a Facebook post, the Cuban boxer detailed the events that led him to block Ardenys’ phone number. "That person came to my gym with someone else while I was on vacation, recovering from surgery. My brother and my trainer called me and said they didn't like some people who wanted to see me," recounted Ugás.

"I told them to have them come back the next day. When I met with them, they talked about some nonsensical plans, and I told them that in 2024, I do not believe in violence nor do I support it. I'm not paranoid, but I thought it was a trap to discredit me or something," Ugás added.

He mentioned that after that, Ardenys González called him, but he never answered and eventually blocked his number. "I forgot about it, thought he was crazy, and now I see him on the news, acting like a coward, brute, without values or character," the boxer concluded, without offering further details about the "plans" mentioned by the now-detained man in Cuba.

Although Ugás did not specify when Ardenys García González first contacted him or when they met in person, the boxer attached a screenshot showing communication attempts by Ardenys dating back to April 2022.

In the comments section of the post, dozens of followers of the Cuban-born athlete praised Ugás' stance, believing it was clearly a trap to later accuse him of terrorism. "Humberto would have dedicated several programs to you," speculated one follower, congratulating the boxer for not falling into the trap.

Alleged Terrorist Plot

In recent days, Willy González, leader of the organization "La Nueva Nación Cubana en Armas," mentioned by the Havana regime as the ringleader of a supposed conspiracy that ended with a detainee in Cuba, denied any involvement in an armed operation on the island from his residence in Orlando.

"Our organization provides military training, but not with subversive objectives," González told Telemundo 51, stating he does not recall ever meeting Ardenys García Álvarez, although he doesn't rule out that he might have received military training within the organization.

"We have not conducted any operation in Cuba, and we don't know anything about what they're talking about," González said, adding that they do not have plans to violate U.S. laws, although they do wish to be ready in case of an armed uprising in Cuba.

Earlier last week, the Cuban government announced it had dismantled an alleged terrorist plot against the country, supposedly organized and funded from the United States. According to the regime, the key figure was a man who entered illegally through the coast of Matanzas on a jetski in November 2023.

The authorities identified the man as Ardenys García Álvarez, 40, from Cienfuegos. The regime claimed García Álvarez had a criminal record on the island for speculation and robbery with force. He had illegally left the country in 2014 and had been residing in the United States since then.

Cuban authorities accuse Ardenys García Álvarez of entering Cuba illegally on a jetski carrying weapons and scouting key locations to orchestrate terrorist plans on the island. He faces criminal charges for crimes against State Security, espionage, and violating constitutional order, among others.
