Kamala Harris, the Vice Presidential candidate for the Democratic Party, has previously expressed her opposition to the embargo on Cuba, as several U.S. news outlets have recalled.

The Tampa Bay Times revisited statements made by the California senator last year, following her recent selection by Joe Biden to represent the Democrats in the upcoming November elections.

The Florida newspaper reported that "Senator Harris believes we should end the failed trade embargo and adopt a smarter approach that empowers Cuban civil society and the Cuban-American community to drive progress and freely determine their own future."

At that time, the newspaper had sent a series of questions to the Democratic primary candidates, including Harris, on topics of interest to the state, such as the relationship with Cuba.

Political Reactions

However, her political rivals were quick to criticize Harris. Among them was President Donald Trump, who labeled her as "nasty," "horrible," and "phony," according to the news portal 14 y Medio.

This past Sunday, current U.S. President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the presidential race for the upcoming November 5 elections. However, in stepping down from the campaign, the president offered his support to his Vice President, Kamala Harris.

"Fellow Democrats, I have decided not to accept the nomination and focus all my energies on my duties as president for the remainder of my term," Biden stated in a message posted on his personal social media account.

"My first decision as the party's candidate in 2020 was to choose Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it has been the best decision I've made," the president emphasized, indicating the potential nomination of his current vice president.

"Today, I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be our party's candidate this year. Democrats: it's time to unite and defeat Trump. Let's do this," Biden concluded.

Recently, former President Donald Trump mocked Joe Biden after he mistakenly referred to Kamala Harris as "Vice President Trump."

On Thursday, during a press conference where the Democratic leader attempted to demonstrate his capability to continue in the White House, Biden made a gaffe by calling Kamala Harris "Vice President Trump" and continued speaking as if nothing had happened.
