Power Outage Cripples Water Supply, Leaving Half of Havana Dry
Description not available

A power outage on Sunday evening affected the 110,000-volt transmission lines supplying the Cuenca Sur water source, crippling the main conductor and leaving half of Havana without water.

The Empresa Aguas de La Habana explained that the sudden loss of electrical power caused a total halt in pumping, which in turn led to several water hammer effects on the main conductor of the water source, causing it to collapse at three points.

As a result, the pumping from this source has been interrupted since 7:25 PM, impacting the water service in the following areas and neighborhoods:

Areas Affected by the Water Supply Interruption

In the municipalities of Centro Habana and Habana Vieja; in the Plaza municipality starting from 3:00 AM, except for the Hospital area of Loma del Príncipe; and in the Cerro municipality, affecting the neighborhoods of Casino, Santa Catalina, Palatino, Las Cañas, Martí, and Cepero Bonilla.

In the 10 de Octubre municipality, the service will be disrupted in the Santos Suárez and part of Sevillano neighborhoods, and in the Boyeros municipality, affecting the neighborhoods of Embill, Ciudad de la Construcción, Rio Cristal, and part of AltaHabana.

According to a note shared on Facebook, repair and maintenance brigades are working around the clock to fix the issues as quickly as possible.
