A patient admitted to the General Hospital Carlos Manuel de Céspedes in Bayamo, Granma, is reportedly in critical condition after falling to the floor while being transferred from the tomograph bed to a gurney, according to a report that surfaced this Wednesday.
The unfortunate incident came to light in a Facebook post by activist Diasniurka Salcedo, who shared videos showing the patient’s family members protesting in a hospital corridor. According to the report, there was no orderly present to assist with the transfer.
"Right now, at the General University Hospital Carlos Manuel de Céspedes in Bayamo, a patient fell from the doctor’s hands while being transferred from the tomograph bed to the gurney, and she is now in critical condition," Salcedo noted.
She also pointed out that "the family members are demanding answers," explaining that "the incident occurred because there was no orderly available to help."
The videos shared by the activist capture the confusion and indignation of the family members following the incident. "She was lying on the gurney, and she fell from it!" exclaimed one of the relatives, while several people silently observed the scene.
The man claimed he witnessed the moment when the doctor "moved her and overturned the gurney," and addressing a woman who identified herself as the patient’s sister, he said that he "wanted to take her out on the bed," but she refused.
In another video, the woman can be heard shouting: "I'll kill him, I’ll kill him, and I won't regret it because that’s my sister!"
Lack of Orderlies and Hospital Safety Concerns
Due to the lack of orderlies, she and the man are seen removing the patient from the room on the same bed, seemingly to take her to the intensive care unit as someone had suggested earlier.
At that moment, a nurse noticed someone recording with a cell phone and shouted threateningly: "Call the police, you can’t take pictures here in the hospital," and the video cuts off immediately.
