The official journalist Magda Iris Chirolde López, who served as the chief editor of the informative segments on Cuban television, passed away Wednesday night at the age of 33. The cause of death has not been disclosed.

One of the first to break the news was fellow journalist Lázaro Manuel Alonso. "Magda has left us, far too soon and unexpectedly. She was the noble soul of our newsroom, a diligent and responsible professional. Rest in peace. The days at NTV will not be the same without you," Alonso wrote on Facebook.

Originally from Pinar del Río, before taking on her role at the Cuban News Channel, Chirolde López worked at the Guerrillero newspaper in Pinar del Río, the Artemisa provincial newspaper, and Juventud Técnica magazine.

"Her nobility, sense of justice, and constant effort to improve every day will always accompany us," concluded a brief condolence note published by Canal Caribe on Facebook.

Juventud Técnica also paid tribute to the young journalist. "Magda came to the magazine eager to grow as a professional and as a human being, and she succeeded. She shared her talent on various topics, mainly energy and robotics, and was a crucial link with CUJAE. She also managed our audiovisual department and oversaw the podcast section, playing a key role during the work with Cuban doctors in Italy during the COVID-19 pandemic."

"Although she left JT some time ago to take on new challenges in television, she maintained excellent personal and professional relationships with the editorial team. We will never forget her unique laugh, her curiosity, and her constant desire to improve every day. Farewell, Magda."

"I don't want to remember you with the pain of your departure. I want to remember the friend who always had a smile, special words for any occasion, who loved adventures, animals, children, and was always there for everyone," reads one of the many farewells flooding social media from those close to the young official journalist.

"So eager to accomplish projects and to live," lamented Bertha Mojena Milián in another post commemorating the young journalist.
