A man was fatally shot by Miami police in Little Havana after officers responded to a call reporting the victim was firing shots into the air and at a building with a weapon, according to Telemundo.

The incident occurred around 1:00 p.m. at SW 5th Avenue and SW 3rd Street, just west of Interstate 95 in Miami, said Manny Morales, the chief of the local police.

According to the officer, they received a 911 call and arrived at the scene to find a man discharging a firearm in the area. He also mentioned that during the confrontation, shots were fired, resulting in the suspect being shot and killed. No officers were injured in the incident.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has launched an investigation into the event, and the name of the armed man has not been disclosed at this time.

This is not the first case of a man being shot and killed by Miami police this year. In February, a man who had been reported missing and endangered was shot by police officers during a confrontation at an apartment complex in Weston, South Florida.

The deceased was identified as Mario Bonilla, 55, a resident of Weston. The Broward Sheriff's Office (BSO) reported that deputies responded to the area shortly after 9 a.m. following reports of a potential suspicious person.

"When they located the individual, he exited the vehicle armed. He was given verbal commands to drop the weapon. He did not comply. Instead, he charged at the officers, prompting one of the deputies to discharge their weapon," said BSO spokesperson Veda Coleman-Wright.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and was later identified by authorities.
