Young Woman Mourned in Santiago de Cuba After Fatal Girón Bus Accident

The 32-year-old woman who tragically died on Wednesday in Santiago de Cuba following an accident in the historic center of the city, was laid to rest on Thursday by her family and friends.

Journalist Yosmany Mayeta shared an emotional video on Facebook, capturing the heartfelt farewell given to Yanileidis Vázquez Quiala, a young mother of three. The video showed her husband, visibly distressed, insisting on seeing his wife one last time before she was buried.

Yanileidis was walking along the sidewalk at the intersection of Heredia and Peralejo streets when a Girón bus lost its brakes and crashed into an old building, causing it to collapse from the impact. According to eyewitness accounts shared by Mayeta, the woman was buried under the rubble.

"We had to dig to get her out from under the blocks, but it was too late to take her to the hospital. She died instantly," revealed one of the people who helped rescue the victim.

At the time of the accident, Yanileidis was with her husband, who survived the tragic incident and was in a state of desperation. Firefighters and police quickly arrived at the scene to offer assistance and conduct the necessary rescue operations, but the victim died on the spot.

Mayeta noted that the bus involved in the accident occasionally transports workers from the Moncada Cement Factory, located in the Abel Santamaría neighborhood.
