Tampa Sets World Record with Largest Cuban Sandwich Ever Made

Tuesday, July 30, 2024 by Samantha Mendoza

Chefs and volunteers joined forces to create the largest Cuban sandwich in history, reaching a length of just over 365 feet. Organizers estimate that this colossal sandwich can feed more than 750 people, and they took great care to keep it fresh.

The event took place in Tampa on July 28th at One Buccaneer Place, marking a collaboration between the International Cuban Sandwich Festival and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Volunteers faced climate challenges to set the record, ultimately achieving a sandwich as long as a football field.

René Marquis from the American Culinary Federation led the effort not only to break the record but also to support those in need. "Tampa has the oldest Cuban sandwich in the world, and now we have the largest. The best part is that the community has come together to feed those in need," Marquis told Bay News 9.

After measuring the sandwich, it was delivered to New Beginnings of Tampa. Dr. Tom Atchinson expressed his gratitude for the community's solidarity. "It's not just about the food that will feed people but also about thinking of our veterans and homeless, and that has great significance," he mentioned.

With the record-breaking 366 feet achieved, the task of packing the sandwich began, ensuring it could be distributed to those who need it most, allowing them to be part of this gastronomic milestone.
