Cubana Sparks Heated Debate on TikTok Over Lack of Humility in the U.S.

Wednesday, July 31, 2024 by Henry Cruz

A Cuban woman who goes by 'la abuela' has stirred up controversy on TikTok after sharing a video expressing her dissatisfaction with the attitude of many people in the United States. The 61-year-old, who arrived in the country on parole, lamented that her experience has been different from what she expected.

"I have thought that this country, the people are more envious, more brazen, and more disrespectful than in Cuba," began @normahenriquez67 bluntly. "Neither the neighbor nor anyone else. I came to this country expecting one thing and realized it was another. There is no humility here, nothing. And that’s with everything this country has, while in Cuba there's nothing but there's humility, and there's everything."

She continued to elaborate on her experiences, particularly in the workplace. "In the jobs, they treat the last one to join terribly, and I say this from experience because they’ve treated me poorly in the jobs I’ve held here," she added in the video, expressing her surprise at finding so many envious and disrespectful people in a "free country."

As expected, the reactions and varied opinions have flooded the comments, with many users sharing their own perspectives, some in support of the woman and others disagreeing. "It's a great truth; there's no love here, nothing," "You’ve spoken a great truth, blessings," "Every word you said is true, blessings," "You're absolutely right, there's no family love here, but stay strong because God is great," and "It's true, but stay strong, we can't go back," were some of the supportive comments.

On the other hand, some users had different takes: "It's not the country, it's the people who've lost their values," "People change here," "This country is amazing, but many people lack education," "It's the same in Cuba; it's humanity," "There are bad people everywhere," "Everything here is about money; without money, how will you buy things?" "With all due respect, it's not the country's fault; it's us humans who've lost all values. The situation is the same in Cuba and any other country."

In other videos, 'la abuela' has also shared parts of her story, including the support she has received from her children since arriving in the country and the health problems she had to resolve due to poor care in Cuba. What do you think about this heated debate?
